A natural treasure lies hidden in the Spanish countryside, just 20 minutes drive from the heart of the cosmopolitan buzz of Madrid’s city centre—the Canto del Pico Estate. This breath-taking property, with long winding pathways that lead you, past huge boulders and ancient pine trees, takes all its visitors by surprise. No one expects to find this gem, where silence and pure air abound, so close to the vibrance, noise and hectic life of the city.

When the main doors swing open and the jeep drives you up the winding road, you’re in a unique property like no other. All around you, dotted between the shrubs and pine trees stand immense granite boulders and rocks, in fascinating shapes and sizes, some of them hanging so precariously from others that the positions seem almost impossible to be true.

The inspiring estate was the project of its original owner, El Conde de las Almenas, a Spanish Count whose love of nature and art can still be felt at every turn despite the almost 100 years that have passed since he completed it. For the past 30 years it has been the property of English company Stoyam Holdings Ltd.

In the middle of the estate a deep valley that can’t be seen from any road and throughout the property rocky pathways that have been laid out and lead to all the hidden corners. Rocks shaped as benches and tables are laid out on the top of some of the largest rocks and make for magical picnic spots. Stairways carved from stone abound throughout the estate allowing access to some of the highest points. There are rocks with hidden nooks and crannies that in the days when knights rode through these lands, would have formed perfect places to seek protection and shelter!
